Name of Artist: Emily Blincoe Personal Background: Emily Blincoe was born and raised in Austin, Texas. She lives in Nashville Tennessee, but travels often with her dog(Eleanor). Blincoe took up photography as a, “full blown obsession” in 2010, as stated in her FAQ on her website. Emily took Instagram and Flickr as a way to put her work out into the social eyes. Blincoe signed on with an agency called “tinker street” sometime after 2013. “Tinker street” opened her eyes to the possibility of being a full time photographer. Emily Blincoe has been a full time photographer for three years now. Style: Emily Blincoe is well known for her colorful and well thought out arrangements. Blincoe says that her arrangements all started by accident. She allows herself to get inspired and photograph “the story of where I am.” Emily also takes portraits and old abandoned cars, or places. The photos she takes outside of her arrangements greatly reminds me of Dorothea Lange and her documentary photographing style. Philosophy: Emily Blincoe has openly explained that she photographs for herself. Her photos are very personal and mean much more to her than it may to anyone else. Blincoe often photographs her town, her dog, and her life. “I create for myself,” said Blincoe in her FAQ. Influences: The lightness and simplicity of her photos has inspired my work to be more angelic and calm. Emily has lots of color and a fun attitude to her photos. I strive to have the same attitude/ mood in my photos. How personal and effortless Blincoe’s initial intent for her photograph inspires me to someday reach that stage of being. Compare and Contrast: I had some difficulty recreating the photographs I chose by Emily Blincoe. In comparison the setup of our photographs are very similar. The moods are similar to each other. In contrast my photos are taken closer up. The small details are not exactly the same, and the brightness and contrast is not quite as right as the originals. All in all I feel like I did the best I could with the photos that I chose.
Personal Artist Statement: What an experience it was to replicate a photo of a rising artist. The photos I chose to replicate all have flowers and a sense of gentleness in them. With summer near and peaceful days ahead my choices were directed to these photos. My sisters' were the main attention of my photographs; much like they are in all my other photos. I feel with using my sisters as models in these photos I connected with Emily Blincoe and her personal affects she puts into her photographs. These photos are very beautiful and I am pretty pleased with the way they turned out.
